As a young man, he was in the drycleaning business in Arkansas i believe.

Served in the US Army - stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1943.  Earline said they 'like to have starved them there', as they were short on food.

Worked in a shipyard in Houston, TX before moving to West Monroe, LA. where he worked for the State as a truck inspector, then later opened "Curly's Bait Stand" on Trenton street, at the location of the McKissick family home.

He was killed in an automobile accident in W. Monroe, LA. in 1969

6. Buford James GREEN [scrapbook] was born 5 Dec 1915 in Deridder, LA. He married Sarah GULLEY. [Parents]

B.J. Green was adopted and raised by Aunt Jewel after his father was killed in a railroad accident.

His real birthday was Dec. 5th.  The name on his birth certificate did not match "B.J."  He never knew what B.J. stood for, so he chose Buford James.

B.J. Green worked in the trucking industry, finding drivers for shipments.

He recounted several colorful stories from his past to me, including bootlegging illegal whiskey from Louisiana to Arkansas via late night train rides.  He also recounted a story of when he was a young man, and they used to borrow the horse and wagon, and carry the phonograph in it with them so they could listen to music while they rode or after they got to the dances.  Barn Dances were a common weekend activity amongst the people of the community in those days.
